Mavericks Unveil Season 5 Logo, Announce Multiple Player signings

 Independence, Missouri -The Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League made many business announcements in front of fans and media at a press conference Thursday at Independence Events Center. The Mavericks’ President, Brent Thiessen, unveiled a logo celebrating their 5th Season, and announced multiple player signings. The Mavericks also announced their home opener will be on Saturday, November 2, and previewed a new Orange Jersey design among other items.

 

Season 5 Logo and Jersey Design
The Mavericks Season 5 logo incorporates their horseshoe logo with a hockey stick and shield. The team will once again honor the famous phrase of Independence-native, 33rd President Harry Truman, with a slightly different spelling of "Give M Hell" as their campaign slogan for the 2013-14 season. The Mavericks unveiled a new design for their alternate orange jersey featuring the Season 5 logo, as well as black and white variations of the home and away jerseys featuring the Season 5 logo on the shoulder.2013-14-Jersey-Orange-pic

Player Signings
The Missouri Mavericks announced the team has re-signed four players for the 2013-14 season. Forwards Sebastien Thinel, Andrew Courtney, John-Scott Dickson and defensemen Dave Pszenyczny will all return for the 5th season of Mavericks hockey.

“With these signings, we add four talented players that will be entering their 3rd full seasons with the Mavericks. They represent a strong nucleus that encapsulates what it means to be a Maverick,” said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Scott Hillman. “They all have great character and are committed to the success of this franchise. We all have felt the heartbreak of the game 7 loss in each of the last two years together and this group is committed to help get us over that hump. Home Opener November 2 at IEC
The Mavericks will open up the home portion of the 2013-14 season on November 2 at Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m. The Mavericks will also host the traditional New Year’s Eve game with the remainder of the Central Hockey League schedule coming mid-August.

Other Announcements: The Mavericks will unveil a special season 5 jersey promotion. Starting July 1, all fans will be able to vote at MissouriMavericks.com for their favorite jersey over the past four seasons. The top 5 jerseys will be featured in jersey giveaways throughout the season. There will be two adult jersey giveaways, 2 youth jersey giveaways and one for all season ticket holders. Also, as a thank you for the season ticket holders who have been with us for all five seasons will be given a $50 gift card (per account) to the team store.

Player Bios:

Thinel, 32 (3/24/81), led the Mavericks in points last season with 96 points (19-67=96) in 66 games played. The St. Jerome, Quebec native joined an elite club two seasons ago while playing with the Mavericks when he became just the seventh player in the 20-year history of the league to record his 700th CHL point. Thinel was voted Best Overall Player, Best Playmaker, Most Valuable to his team, Most Gentlemanly Player, Best Overall Player among others in the 2012-13 Best of the Best poll. The 6-foot-1, 212-pound forward has eclipsed 80 points in the last seven seasons he has played in the CHL and he has a total of 825 points (287-538=825) in 633 games played in the CHL.

Courtney, 28 (6/8/85), returns to the Mavericks for his third season. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound forward finished with 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 44 games last season with the Mavericks. A native of Belleville, Ontario, Courtney had an impressive playoff run with the Mavericks last season finishing the playoffs with 13 points (9+4=13) in 13 games, including 2 goals in game 5 of the CHL Semifinals to force a game 6 against Allen Americans. Prior to joining the Mavericks, Courtney played 106 games over the course of five seasons with the University of Lethbridge where he accounted for 72 points (44-28=72) and 172 penalty minutes.

Dickson, 29 (4/10/84), heads into his third season with the Mavericks. The North York, Ontario native finished third in points for the Mavericks with 48 ((21-27=48) points and he was one of just two players to play in all 66 games last season. Prior to turning pro, he played five seasons for the University of New Brunswick and won two CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) National Championships. He finished his collegiate career with 50 goals and 78 assists for 128 points in 111 games played.

Pszenyczny (pshuh-NITCH-nee), 28 (2/18/85), is also returning for his third season with the Mavericks. The 6-foot, 191-pound defenseman amassed 53 points (20-33=53) in 120 games in his first two seasons. Pszenyczny was also voted as one of the best defensive defensemen for the 2012-13 season. Prior to coming to Missouri, Pszenyczny played three seasons with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and accounted for 20 goals, 34 assists and 359 penalty minutes in 170 games played. He won the 2011 Presidents’ Cup Championship with the Mudbugs. From Sterling Heights, Michigan, Pszenyczny played his first two seasons in the ECHL with Phoenix, Alaska and Reading. He also played four games for the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Toronto Marlies during his rookie season. In total, Pszenyczny has 133 points (45-88=133) and 708 penalty minutes in 346 games played as a pro.

Mavericks to unveil 5th Season logo and player announcements at Independence Events Center, 11a.m.

The Missouri Mavericks  will host a Press Conference Thursday, June 13, at 11a.m. inside the Presidents Club at Independence Events Center. Enter through the South doors, by Community Ice, starting at 10:45 am.

The Mavericks will be unveiling a brand new 5th season logo!  Other announcements will be made including: several player signings and a 5th Anniversary jersey giveaway initiative that will allow fans to vote on their favorite past jersey designs.

“We are extremely excited to begin what will be a year-long hockey celebration in Kansas City commemorating our fifth season in Independence,” said team president Brent Thiessen.  “This gives us time to reflect back on the quality players that have led our team in previous seasons and build towards what will inevitably be our best campaign yet.”

Several Mavericks’ players will be present to discuss their goals for the upcoming season and answer questions from fans and media.

SEASON TICKET EXCHANGE PROGRAM INTRODUCED

The Missouri Mavericks are excited to introduce a season ticket exchange program for the first time in franchise history. This program will give all season ticket holders the opportunity to exchange their season tickets, in advance of games they cannot attend, for an equal number of tickets to select game dates during the 2013-14 season. MISSOURI MAVERICKS SUMMER HOCKEY CAMPS
For players of all ages and abilities

The Missouri Mavericks will once again host hockey camps throughout the summer for players of all ages and abilities.  The camps will be directed by Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman and Director of Player Personnel Simon Watson.  Between the two of them, they have over 27 years of hockey camp instruction experience.

The summer camps will begin with a new camp entitled the "School of Rock the Rink & Links" camp in which students will not only be coached in hockey, but also golf and music! The other camps included in the summer are two sessions of the Mavericks' "Complete Hockey Skills Development" camps and one "Adult Fantasy" camp.
