Mavericks Sign Left Wing Ted Vandermeer
Forward joins brother Bill on Mavs’ roster
Independence, Missouri – Missouri Mavericks’ Head Coach Scott Hillman announced Tuesday the Central Hockey League (CHL) club has signed left wing Ted Vandermeer for the team’s 2009-10 inaugural season. Ted is the team’s 11th signed player and joins his brother Bill on the Mavericks’ roster.
“After a very solid junior career in the WHL, Ted has had two outstanding years in the CHL,” said Hillman. “We believe Ted can be a point-a-game player but he is also very responsible defensively. He will be called on to play in key situations when the game is on the line. Ted is well respected around the league for his play and will be a great addition to the Mavericks locker room.”
Vandermeer, 23 (5/22/86), is entering his third professional season having spent his first two seasons in the CHL. During his rookie campaign, the Caroline, Alberta native notched 41 points (17-24=41) in 52 games with the Austin Ice Bats. He produced a 40-point season (21-19=40) with the Oklahoma City Blazers last year in his second season.
“Ted is another great signing for our franchise,” said Mavericks’ President and General Manager Brent Thiessen. “Coach Hillman continues to work hard to make the Mavericks a very competitive team and Ted is another example that the organization is headed in the right direction.”
Prior to playing professionally, the 6-0, 176-pound left winger played four seasons in the junior ranks with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Vandermeer totaled 76 points and 32 goals in 202 career games with the Rebels.
