MAVS PILE UP THE SHOTS IN SHOOTOUT WIN OVER ICEMEN

Missouri outshoots Evansville by 31 shots in critical Turner Conference win

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri – The Missouri Mavericks skated to a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory over the Evansville IceMen. The Mavericks outshot the IceMen 49-18 in the game, setting a franchise record for largest shot margin over an opponent in a game. John-Scott Dickson and Dale Mahovsky scored the lone goals in regulation for the Mavs, solving Evansville goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier, who had 46 saves on the night. The win was the Mavericks’ eighth consecutive home win and puts Missouri just three points back of the Turner Conference’s top overall spot.

Evansville struck just 53 seconds into regulation on a shorthanded goal by Nicklas Lindberg. Assisting on the goal was Steve Makway. Josh Beaulieu struck late for the IceMen, doubling their lead late in the first period, with 17 seconds left in the opening frame. The Mavs held the IceMen to just five shots in the first period, their lowest total allowed in a period this season.

The Mavericks registered 17 shots on goal through the first 10 minutes of the second period, but were unable to get one past Evansville goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier. Dale Mahovsky finally broke through for the Mavericks, scoring a five-on-three power play goal at the 14:24 mark of the second period. At the end of two periods, the Mavericks were outshooting the IceMen 37-8.

Missouri tied the game with just over seven minutes to go in regulation, as John-Scott Dickson redirected a shot from the point in front of the net, tying the game at two each. The third period finished with each team failing to score a game winner. The game went to overtime and neither team could score the game winner. Missouri and Evansville headed to the shootout, where Missouri got goals from Sebastien Thinel, Ed McGrane and Andrew Courtney’s game winner in the fourth round, sealing the 3-2 victory for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks outshot the IceMen 49-18 in the game, their largest shot margin in franchise history.
